Practical and psychosocial support
Strangers Care
Support for the pressures that cause and worsen distress — hunger, hardship, housing, displacement and violence.

What it is
About Strangers Care
Strangers Care provides psychosocial and practical support for the external pressures that cause or worsen mental distress: poverty, hunger, unemployment, housing instability, displacement, domestic violence and other hardship. Fundraising helps make this work possible, but the program is a support service, not a crowdfunding page.
How it works
- A need is understood and verified with care, through documented and safe sources.
- A specific support plan is agreed: what is needed, who delivers it, and what closure looks like.
- Psychosocial support runs alongside practical relief — never instead of it.
- Every case is followed up, reconciled and closed out with evidence of what changed.
Who it helps
People whose circumstances are the barrier to recovery — someone who cannot focus on their mental health because they do not know where they will sleep, eat, or be safe tonight.
How it connects to support
Strangers Care works hand in hand with AngelMinds for ongoing human support and with BridgeMinds Alliance partners for shelter, protection, legal help, food security and clinical care.
Where it operates
Across the Mental Help Foundation network — Mental Help America, Mental Help Africa and all five African country branches.
Safety and boundaries
Dignity first
Consent to receive support is separate from consent to be featured. We never publish location, movement or identifying details that could put someone at risk, and we never use hardship as a fundraising spectacle.
Connected programs
No program stands alone
Support rarely fits inside one program. These are the ones this work connects with most closely.
